The project aims to contribute to the development of the blue economy in Kenya through support to Kenya’s maritime security administrations in the next 3 years.
The Kenyan government established the Kenya Fisheries Service (KeFS), under the Fisheries Management and Development Act no. 35 of 2016, to be responsible for the conservation, management and development of Kenya's fisheries resources. Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) of Kenya fisheries is an essential governance tool for the sound management of the fish resource; Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing hampers such management.
In this framework, Go Blue will assist in the training of already experienced KeFS officers, to update them on tools and techniques making the best use of MCS to detect IUU fishing.
