The draft global biodiversity framework provides a targets subsection on tools and solutions for implementation and mainstreaming including target 14 addressing biodiversity integration at all levels of government and across all sectors of the economy, and target 21 on equitable and effective participation in decision-making related to biodiversity. Its enabling conditions also calls for an integrative governance and whole-of-government approaches (14) and a participatory and inclusive whole-of-society approach (15).
Nature considerations should be integrated into national and sectoral policy and planning. Implementing these strategies on the ground leads to effective conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. Investment, funding, monitoring and adaptive governance must be further leveraged to reach these ambitions. Based on the final decisions on the Long Term Approach to Mainstreaming and the Global Biodiversity Framework, the project will develop capacity-building and cooperation with existing initiatives (e.g. BIOFIN, UNEP-WCMC) to inform its publications and knowledge products, pilot planning workshops at the national and sub-national levels. Results and best practices will be exported to other countries or regions.
