Job description

a.     General objective of the mission

Expertise France is recruiting a Translator to support the implementation of the Project by ensuring high-quality translation and interpretation between Ukrainian, English and French (and vice versa). The Translator will work under the lead of the Liaison Manager of the Health Program with a focus on the Project, and in support of the Head of the Health Program and the Project Lead, as well as the foreign experts working under the Project. Upon request from the Liaison Manager or the Head of the Health Program, the Translator may also support other projects of the Health Program. The Translator will be based in Kyiv (Ukraine). S/he will:

• Provide accurate, context-appropriate interpretation and translation during meetings, technical discussions, trainings and field activities;
• Support communication between the foreign (French and other international) experts and Ukrainian counterparts, ensuring clarity and mutual understanding;
• Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and cultural appropriateness at all times, including for sensitive and military-related content;
• Develop and maintain bilingual / trilingual terminology resources in the health, tactical-medicine and military fields.

b.     Description of the task to be assigned

Key Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list, subject to changes):

Interpretation

• Provide high-quality consecutive and, where required, simultaneous interpretation between Ukrainian and English / French (both directions) during high-level meetings with government, military and donor counterparts, technical working groups, workshops, conferences and trainings, and online and on-site project activities;
• Ensure accurate and context-appropriate interpretation of technical, medical and policy-related discussions;
• Facilitate communication between the foreign experts and national stakeholders, ensuring clarity and mutual understanding.

Translation

• Translate project documentation between Ukrainian, English and French, including operational manuals and guidelines, training materials and curricula, reports and outreach materials, and administrative and financial documents;
• Translate outgoing documents prepared by the team and incoming correspondence, as well as agendas, briefings and official communications;
• Proofread, edit and revise translated materials to ensure accuracy, consistency and quality.

Meeting support and reporting

• Attend high-level and technical meetings to provide interpretation and linguistic support;
• Take accurate notes and prepare minutes in English, French or Ukrainian as required, and support the preparation of summaries, briefs and follow-up documentation;
• Ensure confidentiality and the proper handling of sensitive information.

Coordination and project support

• Travel with the project team to field, training or facility locations to provide interpretation and support as needed;
• Support the organisation of meetings, workshops and conferences, including the translation of agendas, programmes, participant lists and materials;
• Contribute to smooth communication between team members, foreign experts, beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Terminology and quality assurance

• Keep abreast of relevant professional and technical terminology, particularly in the health sector (among others);
• Develop, maintain and update the project’s trilingual terminology database (Ukrainian / English / French);
• Ensure consistency of terminology across all translated and interpreted outputs.

Support to other Health Program projects

• Upon request from the Liaison Manager or the Head of the Health Program, provide translation and interpretation support to other projects of the Health Program.
