Mission description

The Overall Objective is to contribute to increase the competitiveness, inclusivity and environmental sustainability of Cassava, Fisheries and aquaculture and wood processing value chains for enhanced decent job creation, economic growth, and competitiveness of Liberian MSMEs. The Action is aimed at addressing structural barriers to decent work opportunities for all Liberians, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), thereby facilitating their active involvement and contribution to Liberia’s Labour market. The Specific Objective (outcome) aims to ensure that MSMEs, with a focus on enterprises owned by women, youth and persons with disabilities, within the three targeted value chains increase their productivity and production quality so they can offer decent and inclusive job conditions while committing to environmental sustainability standards.

Intervention’s strategies:

The Action will focus on the two main areas of intervention and the related challenges: private sector development and value chain development (Cassava, Aquaculture and Wood processing).

The Action is financed by the European Union and will be co-implemented by Expertise France and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Purpose of the Role

Under the overall supervision of the GSLM, the driver ensures safe, efficient, and timely transportation of staff, visitors, and goods, while also supporting broader logistical and operational needs of the mutualized office. The role contributes to smooth program implementation, effective coordination of transport and logistics, and compliance with organizational, donor, and security standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe Transportation Operate organizational vehicles responsibly to transport staff, partners, visitors, and goods, ensuring punctuality, safety, and compliance with traffic laws and organizational security protocols.
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Monitoring Conduct daily checks and regular servicing to keep vehicles in optimal working condition. Promptly report mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents. Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, repairs, and servicing schedules.
  • Logistical Support Assist with loading and unloading supplies, equipment, and event materials. Provide logistical support for missions, workshops, and official events, including delivery of documents, errands, and coordination of transport needs.
  • Team Coordination Supervise and coordinate the team of chauffeurs, ensuring efficient rotation, mission planning, and adherence to safety standards. Support the GSLM in organizing transport schedules and field missions.
  • Safety & Security Compliance Ensure passengers follow safety procedures (seatbelts, security guidelines). Collaborate with the Safety Officer to apply security protocols during sensitive missions and field travel.
  • Administrative & Facility Support Contribute to administrative and logistics tasks when not driving, such as deliveries, stock management, or errands. Collaborate with janitors for facility-related tasks requiring logistical assistance.
  • Cleanliness & Readiness Maintain vehicles in a clean, presentable, and ready‑to‑use condition at all times, reinforcing the professional image of the organization.

Project or context description

Liberia’s private sector holds significant potential for driving economic growth, decent job creation, and poverty reduction. However, this potential remains untapped due to structural weaknesses in economic governance, a challenging business environment, and an unfavorable investment climate. These systemic constraints, combined with underdeveloped value chains in the cassava, fisheries, and wood sector, limit opportunities for inclusive and sustainable economic transformation. At the same time, these issues present clear entry points for targeted interventions under this Action, aiming to improve economic conditions, strengthen key value chains, and support private sector growth and create the business environment and investment climate in which they can flourish.
