Mission description

Pravo Justice IV project is recruiting two (2) interpreters, one (1) translating Ukrainian and English and one (1) translating Ukrainian, English and French

Expected inputs

The Interpreters will:

  • Provide simultaneous interpretation at project events from English to Ukrainian and/or Ukrainian to English. One (1) interpreter will be required to provide simultaneous interpretation from French to Ukrainian and/or from Ukrainian to French.
  • Translate project financial and administrative documents, as well as major programme outputs (same languages as above)
  • Ensure the coverage of interpretation services at all programme events, coordinating with and engaging external services if needed.

Project or context description

The Powering Ukraine’s justice sector for EU accession and accountability (Pravo-Justice IV) Programme, implemented by Expertise France (EF) with funding from the European Union and French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, accompanies Ukrainian authorities in the process of comprehensive justice sector reform. Pravo-Justice IV is envisaged to build on the results achieved by the predecessor projects (Pravo - Justice I; II & III) which, since 2017, have supported an ambitious sectoral reform agenda. Building on these achievements, Pravo Justice IV will follow two intertwined specific objectives: to support the EU accession process by aligning the Ukrainian justice system to EU standards, and to support relevant law enforcement and justice actors involved in the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of core international crimes. That latter point is aimed at fostering efficient procedures in line with European and international standards and contribute to closing the impunity gap through proper coordination and international cooperation.

 

Pravo-Justice IV is organized alongside two pillars: to support and strengthen justice institutions and other national stakeholders and implement fully the Rule of Law Roadmap to match EU standards and ensure the approximation of the acquis in the justice sector (Pillar 1), and to ensure accountability for core international crimes through promotion and harmonization of national prosecutions and support to the law enforcement, prosecutorial and judicial institutions (Pillar 2).

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in interpretation is required an additional degree in law will be considered an advantage;
  • At least five years of experience providing translation and interpretation services in a fast paced environment and at high level events;
  • Strong legal vocabulary would be considered a major asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • High degree of organization, attention to detail, and ability to multitask;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Ukrainian (and French);
  • Knowledge of the Ukrainian justice sector and justice sector reform would be an asset.
