Mission description

Under the supervision of the Country Coordinator based in Yerevan, Armenia, the Assistant will support the day-to-day coordination of activities related to the startup and innovation ecosystem. Key responsibilities include stakeholder communication, event logistics, documentation, reporting, and monitoring.

This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized individual with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate is self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable working in a multicultural, international environment.

This is a full-time position offered under a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities and Scope of Work

1. Operational Support

  • Assist the Country Coordinator in the planning, coordination, and execution of daily program activities.
  • Support scheduling, agenda-setting, and follow-up for meetings with partners, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate logistics for missions, workshops, programs, study tours, and other events with partners and the project’s logistics team.
  • Provide logistical and operational support during high-level visits or missions by EU4Innovation regional or EU representatives, when needed.
  • Collaborate closely with project team members across various international offices (e.g., administration, logistics, finance, and communications).

2. Communication and Coordination

  • Draft, edit, and manage professional correspondence with ecosystem partners, government institutions, universities, and startups.
  • Provide necessary information and materials to the project’s communications management team.
  • Liaise with other country teams, the regional coordination unit, and EU4Innovation partners as needed.

3. Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting

  • Track implementation progress of activities to ensure adherence to timelines and deliverables.
  • Collect and compile relevant data, surveys, and feedback from stakeholders and program participants.
  • Maintain well-organized documentation, including records of reports, communications, and project materials.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, reports, and briefing materials.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the mapping and identification of ecosystem actors and potential partners across Armenia.
  • Maintain and regularly update the national ecosystem database.
  • Assist with outreach and relationship-building efforts among ecosystem stakeholders, including startups, innovation hubs, universities, and public institutions.

5. Other Duties as Assigned

  • Provide additional support to the Country Coordinator, including research, translation, or administrative tasks, as required.
  • Limited local or international travel may be required.

Project or context description

The EU4Innovation East project aims to enhance economic resilience and innovation capacity by strengthening the competitiveness of the startup ecosystems across five Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. At its core, the project supports high-performance incubators, improves access to early-stage funding, and connects startups with European markets and investors. Special emphasis is placed on inclusive innovation, capacity building, regulatory support, and the empowerment of women-led ventures.

The project is funded by the European Union and co-financed by the French Government. It is implemented by Expertise France, the French public agency for international technical cooperation.

In order to ensure the high-quality and smooth realization of the project’s activities in Armenia, Expertise France is looking for an Assistant to the EU4Innovation East project’s Country Coordinator in Armenia. The Assistant will support the implementation of the EU4Innovation East project in Armenia.

The location of assignment is Yerevan, Armenia. The working language of the assignment is both English and Armenian.

Overall objective:

Strengthen the competitiveness and maturity of the EaP startup ecosystem

Specific

Objectives:

SO1: Enhance early-stage funding access for EaP startups, especially those led or co-founded by women, by creating a new funding mechanism and improving incubation programs, including technology transfer initiatives.

 

SO2: Foster innovation development in EaP ecosystems by structuring and improving the business environment.

 

SO3: Amplify the visibility of EaP startups and strengthen connections with European investors, fostering both funding acquisition, market access, and increased local interest in the entrepreneurial journey.

 

SO Ukraine: Formulate a customised strategy for Ukraine, integrating French co-financing, to navigate and capitalise upon the distinctive challenges and opportunities encountered by the Ukrainian startup ecosystem during the ongoing reconstruction period.

Required profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, International Relations, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in project coordination, startup ecosystem development, or within an international development context (preferred).
  • Experience working with international development agencies, EU-funded projects, or innovation-focused NGOs is an asset. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

       Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Armenian.

       Knowledge of French is an asset.

       Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

       Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

       Familiarity with Armenia’s startup and innovation landscape is a strong advantage.

       Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Zoom, Airtable).

       Capacity to work efficiently under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality outputs.

Additional information

Reporting & Supervision

The Assistant will report directly to the Country Coordinator for Armenia and work in close coordination with the regional project team and relevant support departments at Expertise France headquarters.
