Mission description
Objectives
The primary objective of this assignment is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between International Technical Experts and Ukrainian-speaking stakeholders through high-quality interpretation and translation services.
Scope of Work
The Language Assistant will perform the following tasks:
- Consecutive and Chuchotage Interpretation:
- Provide consecutive interpretation during meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Offer chuchotage (whispered interpretation) during smaller meetings and informal interactions.
- Written Translation:
- Translate technical documents, reports, presentations, and correspondence from English/French to Ukrainian and vice versa.
- Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translations.
- Communication Support:
- Facilitate effective communication between International Technical Experts and local stakeholders (government officials, community representatives, and technical teams).
- Assist in the preparation of bilingual materials for presentations, training, and reporting.
- Logistical and Administrative Support:
- Support logistical and administrative arrangements related to translation and interpretation services.
4. Deliverables
The Language Assistant will be expected to deliver:
- Accurate and timely consecutive and chuchotage interpretation during meetings and events.
- High-quality written translations of documents, reports, and presentations.
- Efficient and effective communication support for all related activities.
Project or context description
Expertise France is the French international technical cooperation agency, with the status of public institution under the joint supervision of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEFA) and the Ministries of Economics and Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. It is the second largest technical cooperation agency in Europe. Expertise France designs and implements projects that strengthen public policies over the long term in developing and emerging countries.
Over the years, Expertise France has built up a relationship of trust with its partner administrations as well as governmental representatives and stakeholders. In the response to the existing situation and challenges, France has launched a coordinated assistance to Ukraine with a key component on the health sector, through the projects integrated within Expertise France’s Ukraine Health program.
The Expertise France is seeking the services of Language Assistants to support International Technical Experts deployed to the Government of Ukraine, namely different thematic Ministries. The Language Assistant will ensure seamless communication between the experts and local counterparts to facilitate the efficient execution of project objectives.
Required profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Language Proficiency:
- Native-level proficiency in Ukrainian.
- Highly proficient in both French and English, with strong written and spoken abilities.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree (or pursuing final year) in Languages, Translation, Interpretation, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in providing interpretation and translation services is desirable, even if gained through internships or volunteer work.
- Experience with consecutive interpretation is a strong plus.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong sense of diplomacy and cultural sensitivity
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability and ability to work in multicultural environments.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to learn quickly and effectively, especially technical terminology and project-specific information.
