Project or context description

Built on the preceding EQUIP 1, EQUIP 2 is a €20M EU-funded programme implemented by Save the Children International (SCI), EF and SOFRECO. It contributes to the improvement of conducive and inclusive learning environments in formal and non-formal settings, of basic school-teacher qualification through improved training, and enhances education system governance (and coordination amongst stakeholders) whilst supporting the academic research in education. This action aligns with one of the key priority criteria set for the EU Trust Fund Horn of Africa window.

EF is responsible for the teacher training component (component 2), aiming at improving pre-service and in-service training for Sudanese teachers. Initially, the project was supposed to be €4M-budget, last 36 months and cover seven states in Sudan. However, upon a request from the FMoE towards the conclusion period of the EQUIP 1’s PSTT component 2.1, thorough analysis of the situation and extensive consultation with the EUD, it has been proposed that the Action’s budget would be increased from €4M to €9M, the duration extended from 36 months to 42 months and the outreach expanded from seven to the eighteen states across the country (addendum signed on 17 December 2021). Due to the conflict that started in April 2023, the action was suspended for nearly 1 year and subsequently extended to 54 months with a closing date of 18/12/2025 through a second addendum signed on 1/04/24.
