This mission targets the alignment of Georgian regulations with the EU acquis communautaire concerning the monitoring, assessment and management of bathing water and drinking water quality. Part of the activities will be carried out with a local expert to better understand and analyze Georgian regulations. The mission includes a capacity-building component for the Georgian authorities and administrations involved in implementing the new regulations.
The “Water and Health for Georgia” project, funded under the EU Green Connectivity Programme for Georgia, aims to improve water quality in Georgia, while strengthening environmental health risk management. It is structured around two Specific Objectives (SO):
OS1: Improving the capacity to monitor, analyze and regulate water quality and quantity.
OS2: Strengthening the effectiveness of the healthcare system in dealing with environmental health issues, particularly those related to lead.
The action combines three interdependent components:
1. Monitoring of drinking and bathing water.
2. Assessment and alignment of regulations on water quality and environmental risk management.
3. National programs for the management of lead-containing substances.
University degree in Law, Environmental Sciences, Health, Public Health or related field.
Proven expertise in the analysis, drafting and revision of environmental regulations, ideally in the drinking water and bathing water sectors.
Good knowledge of EU water quality directives and environmental risk management standards.
Strong planning and project management skills, including facilitation of participatory workshops and consultation with a variety of stakeholders.
Excellent writing and communication skills in English (and ideally in Georgian or French).
Two areas of expertise have been identified for the activities: bathing water and drinking water. Depending on the profiles selected, the mission can either be concentrated on one expert qualified in both areas, or be divided between two experts, each with their own area of expertise.
